The olive tree (Olea europaea L.) is among the oldest and most widespread crops in Mediterranean basin. Portugal third producer European Union, Trás-os-Montes region, located northeastern Portugal, second Portuguese producing region. moth, Prays oleae (Bernard) (Lepidoptera: Praydidae) a key pest Trás-os-Montes. This natural host/prey of several organisms which include larvae generalist specialist parasitoids as well predators entomopathogens. Its abundant parasitoid Ageniaspis fuscicollis (Dalman) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) this, commonly followed by facultative hyperparasitoid Elasmus flabellatus (Fonscolombe) Eulophidae). Ethylene can reduce Prays oleae attack in olive trees

An ethrel treatment of olive trees in two sites differing in altitude caused a decline in the infestation of Prays oleae, an important pest in this crop. Since the ethylene treatment did not affect natural enemies of P. oleae, we conclude that this natural compound can be used as an alternative to the use of pesticides in olive orchards. The results of this work indicate that ethrel affects P. ...

Long-term study on the evaluation of yield and economic losses caused by Prays oleae Bern. in the olive crop of Granada (southern Spain)

A 28-year study (1970-1997) of olive trees grown in Granada (southern Spain) has revealed the levels of attack by the olive moth (Prays oleae Bern.), as well as the beneficial action of oophagous predators (Chrysopidae). On the basis of the results, the damage caused by the moth has been divided into three categories, and the yield and economic losses have been evaluated. When the final attack ...

Reduction of olive fly, Bactrocera oleae (Rossi, 1790), damage by selecting native and exotic olive cultivars

Olive fly is the most dangerous pest in olive groves worldwide. Therefore the study of the most susceptible and resistant cultivars to olive fly can bring new information to diminish the olive flies harmful impacts. The main goal of the present study is to verify the olfactory response of olive fly to olive volatiles from five native Iranian cultivars (Fishomi, Mari, Rowghani, Shengeh, and Zard...

Transpiration and Photosynthesis of the Olive Tree: a Model Approach

Preliminary results of simulation by the RATP (Radiation Absorption, Transpiration and Photosynthesis) model on olive tree are presented. At leaf level, Jarvis ́ stomatal conductance (gs) model and Faquhar ́s photosynthesis (A) model were parameterised on 2-year-old plants under controlled conditions. At canopy level the spatial distribution of leaf area density of a 31-year-old tree was describe...
